Small Porcelain Bowls
I stained a small amount of porcelain purple with Mason stain and added it in strips onto the white porcelain while forming the bowl. The white and purple become spiralled when it turns on the wheel in the making process. It is glazed in a glossy clear glaze and fired a second time.
This piece is dishwasher safe and meant for regular use.
Small Black Spiral Bowl
I stained a small amount of porcelain black with Mason stain and added it in strips onto the white porcelain while forming the bowl. The white and black become spiralled when it turns on the wheel in the making process. It is glazed in a glossy clear glaze and fired a second time. This piece is dishwasher safe and meant for regular use.
Grey Variegated Bowl
These small porcelain bowls are made by wedging black stained porcelain with with porcelain and throwing them on the potters wheel. After they are dried and trimmed, they are fired in the kiln and then glazed in a clear glaze before a second firing which vitrifies the clay.
The 22K gold was applied in liquid form on to rim, and then a third firing at a low temperature (around 800F) melts the gold to the bowl permanently.
This bowl is food safe, but the gold will spark in the microwave. It can be washed in the dishwasher on the china setting without heat.
ABOUT LANA RAYMAN
I am a Ceramic Artist and Interior Designer living and working in Toronto.
I have crafted a line of functional, handmade pottery from my studio in downtown Toronto.
My work has been sold at markets around the City and at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).
My body of work reflects the many influences I have had over the years of my training. The result is a line of functional pieces that are intended for daily use in the kitchen and home. All of my pieces are food safe and dishwasher safe.
My work is wheel thrown porcelain. The forms are spare and balanced. Many of my pieces have a swirly spiral pattern which is achieved by mixing coloured stains with porcelain and then adding the coloured clay to the pure porcelain while it is on the wheel.
I love making pottery. It is a constant source of joy in the process. I love to share my work with people.
