Lana Rayman - Vase
This vase is made on the Potter’s wheel. I stained some porcelain a turquoise-blue with a cobalt based stain and added it in strips onto the white porcelain while forming the piece. The white and blue become spiral / striped when it turns on the wheel in the making process. After trimming it is trimmed and fired. After the first firing, it was glazed in a glossy clear glaze and fired again to vitrification.
ABOUT LANA RAYMAN
I am a Ceramic Artist and Interior Designer living and working in Toronto.
I have crafted a line of functional, handmade pottery from my studio in downtown Toronto.
My work has been sold at markets around the City and at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).
My body of work reflects the many influences I have had over the years of my training. The result is a line of functional pieces that are intended for daily use in the kitchen and home. All of my pieces are food safe and dishwasher safe.
My work is wheel thrown porcelain. The forms are spare and balanced. Many of my pieces have a swirly spiral pattern which is achieved by mixing coloured stains with porcelain and then adding the coloured clay to the pure porcelain while it is on the wheel.
I love making pottery. It is a constant source of joy in the process. I love to share my work with people.
